Forget about Craigslist, learn how to Sell Cars on OfferUp. Get ads live quickly, get more eyeballs to your car ads and sell them faster and with less headache. Many of you may be totally frustrated with posting car ads for sale on Craigslist. You have a lot of hoops and hurdles to jump over. Craigslist will go out of its way it seems, to keep you honest…and still your ads will get flagged and deleted. I have been on the lookout for a Craigslist alternative for some time now. It seems that the phone apps are getting popular enough to generate enough traffic that you can actually sell high ticket priced items from them ( not just used clothes and almost new electronics). OfferUp has emerged into 2017 as arguably the best photo app to beat when it comes to selling cars.
Intro
OfferUp is very simple to use and is the Craigslist Car Dealer Classified Alternative. I tell everybody about it because you can post ads right from your cellphone. Craigslist makes this difficult to do without an official phone app.
So instead of pulling your hair out trying to get your Free Craigslist ads to stick in the “For sale by Owner” or paying $5 for each listing in the Dealer side…. How about using OfferUp ?
There is an Android and iOS version of the app. Go download it now if you don’t have it.
Craigslist was built on the web browser platform, but with OfferUp, the idea was to create a local mobile-only (phone app) marketplace. This is how to sell cars on Offerup (with less effort and more focus on the car you are trying to sell, rather than the process of trying to post an ad itself). Instead of trying to sift thru international sellers like on Ebay, or Amazon, or scrolling through the headline descriptions on Craigslist, OfferUp is a more local, more image-friendly mobile-only marketplace. You can scroll thru quickly get a feel for what the product is, without even clicking thru an ad.

Another thing people like about OfferUp is that a person can see your profile as well as if you have any testimonials for products you have sold. Facebook Marketplace does not have this option either. So people can get a sense of what you are doing on OfferUp. If you want to be around for the long haul…cultivate your OfferUp profile. You can even join TruYou (their in-house verification agency) by uploading a photo of your ID so you can be verified as a being a real person, not some fly-by- night operation. This helps people to feel more comfortable with you.
How to Post ads
OfferUp uses your smartphones GPS technology to scour your area or you can easily set a range to see what cars are for sale nearby. Your search parameters are already set by default to people 30 miles away from you, but you can toggle it up or down as needed.
I suggest you write out your car ads on a digital notepad and then store them in your phone, so you can copy and paste an ad for posting in 2-5 minutes flat. First step is posting your pics 1-4. Step Two As usual, all of the basic stuff should be in the title… year, model and color of the car. Then add more of a description in Step 3.
It’s easy to choose a category and a slider bar lets you set the condition the item is in. Descriptions, compared to the text-heavy Craigslist, are entirely optional. The last two steps are to simply type in a price and choose the location you’re selling from. You will be done in four steps.
The listings will go live immediately. You know with Craigslist you have to wait and see..sometimes for several hours! If you are in the Atlanta area, come by the office with your cellphone and I will show you how to sell cars on OfferUp.
Important Posting Tips:
The biggest tip I can give you is to post twice a day…mornings and evenings. If you post ads in the morning, let them run all day…then delete in evening and re-post for the evening ad browsers. Your ads will gradually run down to the bottom of the page thru the day as every other ad gets posted right on top of yours.

Next most import thing is to post 3-5 (or more) ads of each car you are trying to sell. If you have one car right now, you should run 3-5 ads …but in 3-5 different zip codes that are next to your home zipcode. This way you can be sure to get a full 100 miles radius of eyes looking at your car ads. You can vary the titles a bit and you can vary the body of the ads . You can even vary the order in which you post your ad picks. Don’t go overboard, you don’t want to spend 15 minutes posting your ads… they idea is to be quick. Get in. Post. Get out. So this is how to sell cars on OfferUp.
And last tip is to try and optimize your pics for size. The tall vertical big pics will always get preferential treatment to the short horizontal pics
