Learn how to buy cars to sell without using your own money. When you are just starting out in the car business and you are buying your first few vehicles, your biggest concern is will you be able to sell your cars. You just spent xyz dollars on a car and you are asking yourself  “did  I spend too much”?  “Will it sell”? etc. etc. One way to alleviate all of this anxiety is to not buy any cars with your own money at all in the beginning.  You can run an auto buying service. You can buy cars for people using their money. Why not? Keep your money in your own pocket. You can do this two ways…either way you do it, it puts money in your pocket without you taking any out. Let me present to you,  The Manheim Hustle.

The Manheim Hustle can be done with any major auction. I just like Manheim. You have two basic ways to approach it.

• Get people into the auction and charge them an access fee
• Post Pics from Manhiem inventory and get a customer to buy a car

If you want, you can post ads on Craigslist and OfferUp, etc. and tell people you can get them into the dealer Auction for a fee. You can charge anywhere from $200-$250 for this kind of transaction.  Auctions are generally held twice a week…..and you can make a quick $1,000 a week just getting people into the auctions and not ever buying a car. The dealership will charge you a $30 guest pass fee and you are just upselling it to your clients.  The guest pass has its only Dealer Rep. number issued from auction access, and that person can buy a car that day.

This is the most simple use of the auction access.  If you have a dealer plate, you can charge them a delivery fee.  The idea is you just want to bring 4-5 people (or more) to the auctions each week. There are tons of people looking for cars on Craigslist and OfferUp. If you use Craigslist, post your ads in “Automotive Services” and Cars/ Trucks For Sale by Dealer $3. (create an Inventory ad). This article is not a tutorial on posting ads, but obviously the more consistent you are with posting  1-2 ads per day (or more), the more calls you will get. You can do this method until you:

1. Increase your confidence
2. Raise sufficient funds to buy your own inventory.

 

The second bullet point involves a little more scurrying around the internet.  First thing you do, is log into your Maheim account and look for cars. You are only looking for “Buy Now” cars in god condition under $6,000.You want something that has mass appeal, a condition report of 3.6 or better and at least a $3,500 spread between the Suggested Retail  price and the Buy Now price. So say for example you see a Nissan Maxima  for  $4,500 Buy Now and Suggested Retail is $6,800-$9,450 …then you know you can sell that vehicle for $6,500 and still make good money… but that’s not what you are gonna do. You are not buying the vehicle, you are only going to post pictures and a description of the vehicle on Craigslist or OfferUp. Post the Maxima with the Buy Now price , plus delivery charge ($100) and auction fee ($125) plus your buying fee of $675. So now this Maxima is sitting at  $5,400 and still below the street value. Both of these ads will get your phone ringing!  The idea is to get a person to commit to giving you a non-refundable deposit and you can then call the seller and leave a deposit.

Or, you can tell the potential customer  we have to get this car today, but if you cant no worries, I can get you a similar one for similar amount of money when you are ready. Then you just take it from there. Using your ability to search out cars, you can find the inventory to suit most budgets. If you are with  reputable dealership, you will have access to CarMax Dealer auctions, Manheim, Adesa, Iaai, and more…so you will be able to find something.
